SOUTHERN FILMMAKER TONYA S.
HOLLY
HITS THE ROAD WITH BONNIE AND CLYDE
Holly Speaks At Annual Bonnie and Clyde Festival and Travels Through Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana
Scouting Locations For New Feature Film The Story of Bonnie and Clyde
June 1, 2007, Florence, AL – With pre-production about to
begin on The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, the newest feature film from
Alabama-based independent filmmaker Tonya S. Holly of Cypress Moon
Productions,
Holly and her team are continuing their travels throughout the South
as they scout for locations for the film in Louisiana, Mississippi
and Alabama.
After participating in the annual Bonnie and Clyde festival in
Gibsland, LA on May 25 and 26 and speaking at the Historians Meeting
to an excited audience of Bonnie and Clyde fans, including several
from both the Parker and Barrow families, Holly continued scouting
for locations to shoot The Story of Bonnie and Clyde.
Holly, who wants to shoot some of the film in her homestate of
Alabama, was also motivated to explore Mississippi as a potential
location for the film because of the aggressive new incentives offered
by the state. Holly was intrigued by Natchez…a charming
and beautiful little town which could easily be used for scenes that
are set in many of the Southern states that Bonnie and Clyde traveled
through.
“I am absolutely thrilled with all of the locations we discovered
in Natchez. It was my first time here and now I cannot wait
to return to shoot scenes for The Story of Bonnie and Clyde,” said
Holly who wrote the original screenplay that she will direct and
produce. “From walking around the historic downtown district
to driving through miles of dirt roads, I found so many of the locations
that I want to use for the film…many of them are so spot on
that there is very little we need to do except dress the sets.”
Among the specific locations that Holly visited are the JM Jones
Lumber Company, The Stratton Chapel in the rear, Natchez Eola Hotel,
the old jail in the county supervisors building and Jefferson College. The
team also found numerous downtown shops that can be dressed to look
like the banks and storefronts That Bonnie and Clyde robbed as well
as rows of houses that can double as tourist courts.
Holly and her team also traveled to and toured Angola prison in
Louisiana that will be used to recreate the infamous Eastham prison – also
known as Bloddyham, in which Clyde was incarcerated.
Set to start production Summer 2007, The Story of Bonnie and Clyde
is a new adaptation (not a remake) of the classic love story which
tells the thrilling true story of the notorious fugitives. Taking
place during the 1930’s Depression, the film follows follows
the adventures of Bonnie and Clyde, uncovering many times in their
lives that have never before been seen on the big screen. Holly
is in talks with name talent to star in the film.
Previously Holly wrote, produced and directed the feature film
When I Find The Ocean. Shot primarily in Alabama, When I Find
the Ocean is a full length feature set in 1965. The film follows
the dream of a little girl (Lily Matland Holly) and her adventure
to find the ocean. The film also stars Lee Majors (The Six Million
Dollar Man, The Fall Guy), Diane Ladd (Alice Doesn’t Live Here
Anymore), Graham Greene (Dances With Wolves), Richard Tyson (Kindergarten
Cop), George Lindsey (The Andy Griffith Show) and Amy Redford (Robert
Redford is her father). Behind-the-Scenes of the filming of
When I Find The Ocean was recently featured on a one hour episode
of Animal Movie Magic by Brighton TV in the UK. The film is
scheduled to be released later this year.
In addition, Holly recently purchased Cypress Moon Studios, formerly
known as Muscle Shoals Sound where such music legends as Bob Dylan,
Bob Segar, The Rolling Stones and Aretha Franklin have recorded among
many others.
